OK, lets say you live in an apartment or townhouse where a loud pet might be a problem. In this situation, you would want to choose a pet parrot that is rather quiet. Maybe you have small children where a priority would be a gentle demeanor or maybe you are a single retired person looking for companionship.

Well, the level of care you will need to provide is about the same as you would for a small dog. Provide fresh food and water on a daily basis along with a clean environment. Look over our Parrot Care Topics, lots of general background material there.

Since parrots just eat seeds, I guess that makes the feeding routine easy, right.

You are only half-right, providing a parrot with a sound diet is fairly easy but you need to provide more than just seed. See our nutrition pages for details but in general parrots should be provided an avian pellet along with fresh fruits and veggies. I little balanced seed mix if OK but should only be a small portion of the total diet.

If I purchase a pet parrot what type of cage should I get and are they expensive?

Caging is an important factor since the parrot will spend a great deal of time there. Look at our caging recommendations to ensure you get one of proper size and bar spacing. I recently visited another parrot breeder web site and they sold their birds while they were chicks and still being hand fed. They related that if I do the hand feeding my bird would bond better to me. It sounded a little dangerous to me since I have no experience hand feeding baby birds. What your thoughts here?

It is dangerous to the health of the bird and your pocketbook if you try to perform the hand feeding and weaning process. Many baby birds have become seriously ill or died from being hand fed incorrectly. Your second point concerning the bird bonding better to the person that does the hand feeding is simply untrue. A good breeder will ensure the bird is well socialized during its growth stage. If another breeder wants to sell you an unweaned chick, either they do not know the facts or they are just tying to reduce their work effort of hand feeding parrot chick.
